Beyond The Promises...
- Change Traffic Stop Policies-No Equipment Traffic Stop Violations
- Duty to Intervene Policy- Deputies are required to intervene when another deputy or officer is violating someone’s rights.
- Created MAT- Medicated Assisted Treatment Program- Opioid Addiction
- Created an Accelerated Culinary Class in conjunction with CPCC
- Created A Business School – The Next Great 50- Peace 4 Poverty- creating actual fully established businesses with a website- improved credit and an LLC
- Created In- House Job Fair – Twice a year job fair created – First job fair held in 2019, 17 residents received employment when released.
- Establish partnership with “You Can Vote” Educating residents on the voting and the election process, regardless of party. Qualified residents were allowed to register and vote.
- Created Camp Cradle -After 19 years, (6-12-2019) Youthful Offender were allowed to have outdoor activities
- MCSO Community Engagement Team- During the COVID epidemic while students and families were sheltered in, MCSO Staff and the Community Engagement Team served 47,342 meals.
- First Male Behavioral Health Pod created inside the Detention Center-Opened 8-15-2019
- NC First Female Behavioral Heath Pod created inside the Detention Center-Opened 8-15-2020
- Provided the Community over 15,000 masks during COVID
- Partnered with Atrium, Novant and CW Williams Clinic – Created COVID Mobile testing sites across the county, in addition to providing security and masks during the COVID epidemic
- Partner with Samaritan’s Feet on three separate occasions to provide over 750 pairs of shoes to the community kids and some adults
- Created a digital Literacy Program- Partnered with CPCC, creating an informative digital literacy program for those incarcerated. Free laptops were given to each resident upon their release.
- MCSO- LBGTQ Committee- established to educate our staff and community
- Created MCSO’s First Investigative Unit- To assist with in-house investigations
- Created a Dignitary Protection Unit- A highly trained protection unit that provides security for visiting dignitaries.
- Created a Barber School- Barber school training (certifications) offered to residents re-entering the community.
- Created a Fatherhood initiative – Reconnecting father and family while being incarcerated, which allows them to actively engage with their families.
- Removed Tear Gas as Use of Force – Tear-Gas usage is no longer an option during public unrest.
2022 Re-Election Promises:
- Advocate and Create Improve Law Enforcement capacity for community interactions
- 2023 Launch The ABLE Program - Active Bystander of Law Enforcement created by Georgetown University in response to the Geroge Floyd incident.
- Continue to strengthen relationship between Law Enforcement and the Community
- Since 2023 each summer MCSO provides a Free Summer Camp youth program - National Hotdog Day in The Park- Community Engagement Team which is now nationally recognized for its activities
- Advocate and Create Stronger Re-entry Services- 2024
- Created North Carolina’s First Post Release Center at the Detention Center which provides services and resources to those who have been released and returning to the community.
- 2025 created the second RISE 5.0 program serving 36 additional Sheriffs Offices in NC seeking assistance with Behavioral Health for those incarcerated.
- 2022 Created The first RISE Program (Restoring Individuals Safely and Effectively) addressing Behavioral Health Issues for the incarcerated.

- Advocate and continue to support efforts against Gun Violence
- Conducted year round Gun Violence seminars, and provided free gun locks on weekends
